DRAWINGS
Providing a General Arrangement Drawing to get an idea of how the gate would look and then provide a Shop Floor Drawing to get the exact measurements and accessories of the gate helps the client plan well for the installation. A well planned installation means what-you-see-is-what-you-get.
CONCEPT
Concept of the gate should go well with the building. Architects are worried about the gate design and its aesthetics when matched with the design of the building. Some space of opening is planned and then the question comes what type of gate and what concept to follow for the building keeping the aesthics in mind. A gate maker is consulted at this time to give his suggestion and comments on the design.
MATERIAL
Mild Steel, Stainless Steel, Solid Iron, Aluminium are some of the options available and each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Mild Steel is good for one reason it cuts the cost to half when it is compared with Stainless Steel or Aluminium. It is also paint friendly and hence can be offered in different colours as per client requirement. Availability in forms such as square and rectangle pipes, hollow and solid, in different sizes and texture is an added advantage for the Mild Steel form of gate. Stainless Steel of 304 grade is rust free in normal city conditions and hence ideal for a maintenance free gate requirement. Aluminium is light and maintenance free, however will be prohibitively expense.
CLADDING OPTIONS
Cladding of gates are being done with wood, HPL sheets, WPC Sheets, Floor Deck Boards, etc. Wood is authentic and nothing can replace the original wood cladding, however, maintenance is difficult. Frequent polishing and maintenance removes the wooden gates from the wish list. However, by treating the wood it can be made to last longer and withstand all weather conditions.

FEASIBILITY
Studying the feasibility of the Gate plays an important role. A swing gate should have enough space to swing and the sliding gate has to slide to one side or slide as two leaves to either side. Feasibility assessment at the drawing stage helps planning a better gate for the site.
ERGONOMICS
Opening the gate and closing should be easy whether by hand or by automated motors. The gate should be provided with bearing hinges or wheels to make the movement effortless or less effort. A free moving gate reduces the need of a higher capacity motor and also reduces the requirement of security manpower at the gate. The lock, handle, latch if provided with stainless steel enhances the functionality and adds to the ergonomics of the gate. The moving parts and the parts that come in contact with the human hand will have more wear and tear and hence paint gets peeled away leaving a poor impression very fast. Having them in Stainless Steel gives a jewel look to the gate while adding to the ergonomics.
HEIGHT
Height planning is essential in gates and has to be decided based on the road level. If the level of the road is lower than the level inside the premises a shorter gate is good enough. A higher elevated entrance of the building would need a higher gate to avoid visibility of the entrance to the outsiders. If vehicles are parked in front we may suggest to go for a bigger or higher gate to avoid the cluttered look at the entrance.
COLOUR
A colour scheme is a signature of a person and the building that he lives presents in colour forms that reflect is nature. Colour paints in Polyurethane or Epoxy or Enamel in glossy or matte finishes make the gate match the building and hence reflects the personality of the person living inside. SHELTER
An industrial gate or a commercial gate will always have some people around it. A Security Guard, some visitors who are waiting for entry, a delivery person waiting to deliver the goods and these people need shelter to theplanned just by the side of the gate. Shelter for security is kept in mind while designing a gate for a factory or a gated community gate.
COMMUNICATION
Communication from the gate to the inside of house or office is critical to allow the security or the visitor to convey the message. A video door phone system, and intercom system are useful tools in communicating with the persons inside the house. A video and audio of the person standing outside in displayed on a monitor or a mobile phone to facilitate communication and command the entry.
